  Elafonisos island is a tiny spot between (north) the famous island chain of Kythira (Kythira and Antikythira complex - famous from the T. Aggelopoulos movie "The Travel To Kythira") and south of Neapolis in Lakonia region of Peloponnese. The place has remained a well kept secret - so far as till now only few Greeks and some Germans or Italians know it and visit it almost every summer for vacation to Greece, as the island has loyal friends. Everything here works in a different rhythm as there are no huge bars or dancing clubs, there is
  only crystal clear blue water crowded from fishes (great place for snorkelling - advise first with the local
  authority's) and great beaches with golden sand.

   

  The island has a different kind of rhythm, rather lazy than cosmopolitan, that works perfect for those who seek to relax and escape from the noisy big cities. On the island there are some pretty good tavernas that among others serve fresh fish (catch of the day) in low prices, bbq tavernas with Greek cuisine and "ouzeris" that serve mezedes (small bites of Greek goods like Greek cheese, marides, shrimps, olives, eggs etc) along with ouzo and tsipouro - Greek strong spirits, careful with these spirits, they drive you crazy in a snap.
  Other than that there is always the beach "Simos" which is one of the best beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, always clean and packed with strangers ready to make friends with everybody for a beer.

   

  As the island is located only 10 minutes far from Neapolis port (ferry's are running till late at night) it's the perfect spot as your base for further exploring Monemvasia medieval castle town, Sparta the Lakonia region capital Kythira and Antikythira islands, Deiros caves (Palaeolithic era) and many other places that worth your attention, once in Peloponnese.
